Hotel photography: Emeline Charleston, SC

More an experience than simply a place to stay, Emeline was transformed from a DoubleTree into a boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown Charleston.

Designed by Makeready, Emeline is curated towards soulful sojourners and curious travelers alike, and there you’ll discover layers of surprise which await you throughout your visit. At Emeline, past and present merge to create a compelling, authentic, slightly masculine, spirited atmosphere with considerable comfort.

Entering the spacious lobby, take the steps up to the check-in desk, where you can browse KeepShop while you wait. This luxury retail experience showcases curated, locally-inspired goods that are sure to become treasures after your stay.

Before you settle in to one of the 212 all-king rooms, slip one of the custom-picked vinyl records or the signature Emeline Travel Edition Volume 1 out of its sleeve to spin on the Crosley turntables available in each suite. Then, take in the dark blue walls which are dotted with black and white photographs taken at Folly Beach and vintage posters from Spoleto Art Festivals. Mustard yellow blackout drapes pop in contrast.

Restrooms have large walk-in rain showers, and signature toiletries scented with amber and spice.

For breakfast, call the front desk to have Clerks Coffee, serving Charleston’s Second State Coffee, deliver complimentary coffee to your room. Or order your favorite drink and pastries enjoy in the impeccably decorated lounge area downstairs. At happy hour, visit the “foxhole” — secret speakeasy-style cocktail windows where you can order drinks from the bar. Afterwards, head to Frannie & The Fox for dinner. Sister to beloved Hanks Seafood Restaurant, this is an on-site wood-fired eatery led by Chef Tim Morton. A complimentary limoncello toast begins at 8 pm in Frannie’s bar and lounge area.
