Squarespace web design for PR and communications agencies: Hologram

One thing we’ve learned after designing on the Squarespace platform for years, is that technology is always changing. We’re excited to grow our skills and implement advanced coding techniques from Standout Squarespace, so that we can create unique, elevated websites and provide an exceptional client experience!

Hologram is a PR and communications agency for off-beat, innovative, and design-forward brands.

We loved building this colorful, retro-inspired Squarespace website, which is loaded with advanced, unexpected CSS features sure to stand out from your typical Squarespace site!

Some of our favorite anything-but-ordinary features applied to this design include:

  • Custom gradients: Using the specific color palette, custom gradients are applied to the announcement bar banner, text backgrounds, and more.

  • Custom menu: Regular Squarespace menus are, well, a little boring to say the least! And let’s face it — everyone has the same style. This slide out menu is sure to set you apart (see it in action here!).

  • Image masks: We transformed and rotated select images, such as the scalloped image above the fold, by applying the code of custom shapes created off the platform — similar to the way you’d add a clipping mask in Photoshop. Pretty cool!

  • Custom fonts: No we don’t just mean we uploaded a custom brand font. When you understand the rules of design, you know how to better break them. It’s not often we’d recommend using more than 2-3 fonts in your Brand Identity, but occasionally, there will be a brand that perfectly calls for it! DIY Squarespace users are limited to using only one size or type of font at a time. With some coding knowledge, you might be able to get two. Showing off the brand’s quirky nature, and sure to stand out, Hologram has sections with an unexpected 5+ unique spacing and styles, including one font which we coded to have individual letters outlined. This is used in a limited capacity so as not to overwhelm, but just take a look at their elevator pitch — impressive, right?! It just works.

  • Overlapping folders: We took your average dropdown, and gave it a bold upgrade! The services area not only reinforces the retro color palette, but creates unexpected movement that grabs visitors attention and helps the site feel more interactive.

  • Stacked sliders: The Recent Projects section uses custom CSS to create a show-stopping layout not available to DIY Squarespace users or those using default features. The eye-catching animation engages users, while inactive slides are blurred in the background and the featured slide is centered and enlarged to capture the attention of readers.
